Last Thursday we celebrated our 10th anniversary with over 100 members,
\nguests, and visitors attend this morning to show support for the Burpengary
\nand District Men’s Shed. However, the large attendance may have something to
\ndo with the ladies from the Green Wattles CWA providing such a wonderful
\nmorning tea. At the morning tea “Honorary Membership” was awarded to Craig
\nHewlett President, Caboolture Community FM Radio Association and Mark Ryan
\n(MP) State Member for Morayfield in recognition of their support in
\nestablishing the Burpengary and District Men’s Shed.<\/p>\n

Our President Rodney Hansen addressed the members, guests and visitors –<\/p>\n

“It’s hard to imagine a time when our men’s shed did not exist- such is the
\nimpact and our involvement with the community. We have made a home for the
\nGreen Wattles CWA, Safe Communities, Uniforms for Kids, AA and the Barking
\nDog Obedience School.<\/p>\n

Over the years our men have been seen at or done projects for local high
\nschools, primary schools, our council, preschools, retirement villages and
\nnursing homes. This as well as the many projects that have come in from our
\ncommunity that would normally end up in land fill.<\/p>\n

We have been seen selling raffle tickets in all the major centres and
\nmarkets in our area. Over the years we have held about 40 major raffles
\nselling about 25,000 books of tickets. Our men have raced other sheds at
\nlakeside raceways on ride on mowers.<\/p>\n

Our Christmas toy giveaway has seen us give away around 6000 toys over the
\nyears to organisations such as Ronald MacDonald house, Brave Hearts, Legacy
\nAustralia, various local DV units and local hospitals to name just a few.
\nThese all made by our very talented men at shed.<\/p>\n

We have done about 200 sausage sizzles over the years , selling about 98,000
\nsausages . We have been seen at places like dog shows at the Elimbah sports
\nground, the local radio station, Bunnings stores, Masters at Morayfield,
\nBurpengary sports grounds, Dakabin tip, Dan Murphy’s Strathpine, various
\npolling days, community events and of course our in-shed sizzles. Every
\ndollar raised goes back into our men’s shed!<\/p>\n

Socially we have had Christmas dinners at nearly all the clubs in our area.
\nWe have had trips to the rail museum, car museum, tram museum, historical
\nvillages, airports, other men’s sheds, fishing trips, breweries, coffee
\nshops ,tool displays and wood shows.<\/p>\n

This is our shed in a nutshell – it is a vibrant place – I congratulate all
\nthe committee members over the years for keeping our shed moving forward and
\nto you our members for being involved in this remarkable organisation –
\nhere’s to another 10 years – congratulations and a happy birthday to our
\nshed.<\/p>\n

As I often say, if you can’t find something to do at shed – you’re not
